Bundarra Central School celebrated
its sesquicentenary this year, marking 150 years
of public education in the area.
To commemorate this significant occasion, the
school was filled with around 400 past and present school students, staff and family on Saturday 31st March.
Phtographs of past and present staff, students and community
members lined the library and hall.
It is exciting to see the family generations in the
school photographs, confi rming our small school
is still family orientated within the community.
1868, saw the one teacher school (Bundarra
Primary) open with a small number of pupils from
the surrounding properties enrolled.
Today Bundarra Central School (BCS) is a
Kindergarten to year 12 school, set beside the
beautiful Gwydir River. The school has a family
atmosphere and maintains close ties to the
community.
Classrooms and teaching methods have changed
greatly since the school fi rst opened its doors,
but BCS still remains an important part of the
community. It is interesting to note some of the
changes over the years such as the progression
of blackboards to whiteboards and now at present
the use of interactive boards.
Principal Mrs Jennifer Cox hopes you will save
the date and join the Bundarra community
to recognise this signifi cant milestone in the
